From the Floor Up

I thought I would give you a tour of where I work. In keeping with Jeremiah's From the Ground up, all these photos were taken from the floor.
To start, here is my desk. It is old because it is an old school building. I am the school librarian. These days, the librarian is often called the library media specialist. In an old building, you can still be the librarian.
~
This is one of the most popular areas in the stacks. At the top are the 796s--sports. Near the bottom is poetry at 811 and 821. On the very bottom shelf are most of the joke books at 818.

This shelf of fiction is also popular. You may see why on the bottom shelf. I notice I need to remove some old shelf labeling, as the oversized books are no longer kept on that shelf.

In many ways we are very up-to-date, but we still have a card catalog instead of the OPAC (Online Patron Access Catalog). I teach my students how to use both, because a catalog is a catalog!

I did have a floor up picture of my file cabinet, but I accidentally deleted it, and it is pretty ugly anyway.

I like these up shots. You get a different feel for everyday objects.

I guess you did these shots for the meme but they would have been perfect for odd shots too since it was a different angle view. I was also qualified to be a media specialist and when I took the classes, they did not use library with media secialist -- those two words stood alone because they took the place of librarian.

Neat .. I love perspectives that change our view of things ... when I was in San Antonio a year ago April there was a Librarian Conference ... they were having a wild and crazy time!

My favorite is the catalog shot, but they are all very well done. I haven't been in a library, except to get tax forms, in years. I know I'm missing out... my closest public library is more than 15 miles away...

Nice shots! The last one recalled to mind when I first learned to use a card catalog. I usually took a very long time to find what I was looking for because I'd stop to read a lot of the cards in the drawer.

These are very good photos and I like the way we are looking up at the books. I love going to librarys not only for the wonderful literature it gives us but I love the smell of books!

I miss the card catalog. I found them a lot easier to find things than I do with the search engines that replaced the cards. Nice shots!

I loved the glimpse into your library. As a child the library in our town was in an ancient building and all the floors and furniture were of real wood. Now everything is modern, plastic and metal, brightly lit and personality free.

This is a fascinating insight into the world of books. It reminds me of how my library looked to me when I was a kid. I loved visiting the library then and I love it now. I just don't do it often enough. The smell of the wood and the books....

Brilliant shots Katney, that invoke fond memories.
