Odd visitor

Not having an odd shot handy in the files, I went poking around in some boxes of snapshots from film days. This puppet --I would call it a puppet -- was snapped at Bumbershoot, a festival at Seattle Center a few years ago.

I should have used it for the headbangers weird and wonderful theme last week.

But it is odd.

Skywatch Reflecting Retrospective --Japan Earthquake

Reflecting on the earthquake this morning in Japan I thought to remember what images I might have stored that relate to Japan. The Japanese Garden at the Yakima Arboretum came to mind and I found these reminders from a visit there a couple of years ago.

Our hearts go out to those affected directly by the quake and with prayers also for those awaiting the tsumani's approach across the Pacific not knowing how extensively it might affect each area.

This is the Rotary International Centennial Pagoda at the Japanese Garden.

We visited in the fall.

Since I posted a SkyWtch Friday from India, I thought I would show how adventurous I really am and show you this reflection which I searched and found in my folder of pictures from Russia. I would have posted one that was actually from Siberia, but I didn't find a good reflection in the files. This is near St. Petersburg on the grounds of Catherine the Great's Summer Palace. (What it really means is that since I went to the Wild Horse Monument on Monday, I really haven't had time to take any pictures.) We went to Russia, to Siberia, to visit our son. We traveled from Siberia back to Moscow and St. Petersburg on the Transiberian Railway. This was in 1998,

Indian SkyWatch from the WayBack Machine

I took this while we were cruising on Lake Periyar in the Periyar Tiger Preserve National Park in India ten years ago. We didn't see any tigers, but we did see some elephants in the distance, some wild boar, and lots of cormorants who liked to sit on those snags in the water. The hotel where we stayed warned us to be sure to close the windows so that we would not be overrun by monkeys. I was so glad we visited this National Park--I have visited National Parks in four countries besides my own. There is something about seeing and understanding what a nation decides to hold apart and preserve that always intrigues me.  SkyWatch Friday is here.
