Photo Hunt--Theme: Heavy

Different kinds of trees have different ways of adapting to the heavy snow load in the mountains in the winter.

You can see that these have long flexible branches which droop more and more as the snow load gets heavier. They can hold a lot of snow.

Watch out, though. If you happen to be standing under one when it has reached its limit of heavy snow, you will have a cold shower down your back.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is springlike here in the valley right now and almost all the snow that I posted a couple of weeks ago is gone. In the mountains, however, all but one of the passes that connect the east and west sides of our state are closed. Our plans for snowshoeing today had to be cancelled because of--you guessed it:
heavy snow!!!!
The snow shots look a bit gloomy. Great shots nonetheless as it captures a certain mood.
Good idea for Heavy! Looks beautiful but like you say, you don't want to be standing under those trees if that snow dropped.
That is a lot of extra weight got the poor trees. We don't have snow, just Pecans. The trees get so heavy woth Pecans, the limbs often snap off. We lost lots of limbs this year.
Lovely shots! That snow looks really heavy on the trees.
Typical that your plans have been ruined by heavy snow - maybe we should change next week's theme to hot or sun!
Continued snow can get heavy for the trees and soil!
Oh those are gorgeous pictures! Snow is so picturesque, or can be, but it can also cause such a lot of aggravation.
Wow! Heavy snow seems to be the rule rather than the exception this winter! Love your tree/snow shots. Well, I love the photos, NOT the snow. We're so tired of it here in western Illinois!! LOL
Thanks for visiting my blog. I think I might join you for Monday's Odd Shots. I takes lots of those.
