ABC Wednesday--D

Clicking the logo will take you to Mrs. Nesbitt's Place, the home of ABC Wednesday.

Back in the wilds for this week's Dd. The first plant is Canadian Dogwood, but it is not found only in Canada. It is a low growing plant that is common on the forest floor.

Although we have Devil's Club at Mt. Rainier and in other deep old growth forest areas in Washington, my best pictures of it come from our Alaskan cruise last summer. It does grow a little bigger in Alaska, but not much.

Devil's Club deserves its name. With the plant plentiful around our campsite last summer, we had to warn the grandkids to steer clear of it. Once they got a look at those prickly stems and the prickly bottoms of the leaves, they were perfectly willing to take our advice.
The Devil's Club served the native populations well, though. It has many medicinal properties and our Alaskan guide described it as the Alaskan natives' pharmacy.

Deer! These happen to be Mule Deer. Not only do we see them frequently at Mt. Rainier in our summers, but I occasionally see them on my commute as well.

And so go my contributions to the world of Dd.

Do you often have odd shots that don't seem to fit in but you want to share? Scroll down a bit and see what we are doing on Mondays with our Odd Shots.

That dogwood is a sweet little flower, isn't it also a type of tree?
