ABC Wednesday -- I is for...

Visit Mrs. Nesbitt to thank her for starting ABC Wednesday,
and the ABC site to find the links to other ABC-I posts.

Continuing the travel theme that I have used for most of this ABC round,

I is for India.

Just as at home I am somewhat obsessed with mountains and valleys, here I give you mountain and valley views in Tamilnadu, in the south of India.

Perhaps the most famous individual in modern Indian history, Mahatma Gandhi's statue stands outside a museum of his life in Chennai.
With the current popularity of Slumdog Millionaire, everyone knows a little about India and Bollywood. When we were visiting the Church of St. Thomas in Chennai, a Bollywood movie was being filmed int he area, with some scenes taking place in the church itself. Seated center in the light shirt was the star, and next to him a starstruck Brother Lawrence.
A bit more day to day was the school. This class had moved into the courtyard for the day.
There is a wide variety of traffic in India. Bullock carts such as this one, piled high with goods, share the road with bicycles, motorbikes (both often carrying either a whole family or a tradesman's wares) three wheel auto-rickshaws, cars, buses, and lorries of all sorts.
In small towns a shop might carry everything from saris to cooking pots, water jugs to foot lockers.
Perhaps some other letters will inspire me to dig once again into my India files.

Thanks for taking us to inner India. The scenery is beautiful, but the way of life is so different. Those poor oxen look overwhelmed by the load!

Here I am following you... :-)

Nice shots. I love photographs of India. So different from my own culture.

By the way, if you'd like me to "follow you" in perpetuity, it would help if you put up the "Follow Me!" widget that Blogger provides (hint, hint)

Beautiful mountain photos, Katney. I agree with Mara. They look like paintings.

Beautiful, beautiful! Wonderful narrative, as well. There's so much to learn and enjoy about global cultures.

Seeing images and being there and seeing in the real thing must be so life-changing almost, katney. What wonderful travels you have had.

I meant to go visit a spice plantation in Tamilnadu. But instead ended up stuck in the stone-cutters' and sculptors' centre of Mamallapuram, an hour's bus ride south of Chennai where it's intensely dry bordering on desert, all the while incubating amoebic diarrhoea!

Great blog you've got here BTW I saw your comment on Liz's (her of the naughty swine-dog GEORGE!)
