Twofer Tuesday--looking back ten years

A couple of different things have reminded me that exactly ten years ago today we returned to the Unites States after four weeks in Russia. We had visited to meet our soon to be daughter-in-law and her family, and to see where our oldest son had been working off and on and studying for several years.
~
We started and ended out trip in Moscow, where one notable sight was St. Basil's Cathedral in Red Square. The onion shaped domes of the Russian Orthodox churches have always intrigued me. You will also find that the Orthodox crosses have a second crosspiece.
We traveled a lot by train, crossing some 5000 miles of the Russian landscape on the Trans-Siberian Railway, because Siberian was where Natasha was from and where Chris had worked and studied.
~
When we were back in Moscow at the end of our trip, we made a visit out of the city to Sergiev Posad, the center of the Russian Orthodox Church. This is one of the monastery churches there.

I haven't posted but a couple of photos from our Russia trip and told a couple of stories from the trip when they fit into a current theme. I'm just posting these two today for Twofer Tuesday--two photos or pairs of photos that are related. I promise to post some more again soon.

Two fer Tuesday comes from Jonna. You can visit her here http://shelbycountymuses.blogspot.com/. Well, I guess that works. Blogger won't let me do it the other way.

How strange that must have been - and fascinating to go so deep into the Bear after all the years of Cold War.

Absolutely wonderful to see such places. I think I remember an earlier post from you, some time ago when I was quite new.
