ABC Wednesday--a Quilter's ABC--D

A little while ago I commented to David that I was working on my D. When I told him that, I really meant that I was working on them. For AB and C, I had several quilts and quilt blocks already made that I could photograph. When it came to D, I could not find anything.

I was deteremined to keep to my theme, though, so I just had to do some piecing.

This one is called Dutchman's Puzzle. It is another block design from the Ladies' Art Company and is a pretty simple block to put together.

This next block is a challenging one to piece because of the curves, but with a few pins and a little practice it is not so bad. You can see the parts under construction here. The block is called Drunkard's Path.

Once the individual pieces are made, they can be assembled in a number of different ways. I though I had a name for this one, but could not find it again. It is similar to Fool's Puzzle.

Arranged like this, the blocks become Doves--do you see them?

This arrangement is a Chain.

...and this one is Polka Dots.

There are lots of other possibilities, and I do not know which I will choose when I put these parts together.

ABC Wednesday now has its own blog where you can see a variety of ABC posts from many bloggers, as well as a site where you can find ABC bloggers signed up on Mr. Linky. Thanks to Denise who started it all and also starts with D.

Isn't this interesting! I have never done quilting... it's something I wish I would've been taught but never had been. I love the designs you had shown... I really like the chain design... I'm sure whichever you choose will look very nice!

Oh the doves Katney! The doves!
What dedication you have to do a block to get the post on the theme. And I am so glad you did.

Drunkard's path looks right when you see all the peices, but I love the doves.

I love your idea to focus on quilt blocks! I am a quilter myself and one of my favorites is the Drukard's Path in muslin and turkey red. I like your blue, too!

Katney - Haven't commented previously on your ABC posts but I have to say - I love the quilt theme. I know nothing about quilting and if you had asked four weeks ago, I wouldn't really have said I thought I would find it inetersting. But your ABC post is just the right amount for me to go "wow" each week and really enjoy! Thank you! Susan

I never realised there were so many descriptive names for quilt designs.

Peter Ustinov read the En.Brit. back in the Fifties but that was the old edition which was more readable. The Macropeadia section would be comparable.

Neat patterns all! I will stick to the simple squares -- bit ones and little ones (9) together.

Drunkard's Path is one of my all time favorites and I would love to have a 2-color Drunkard's Path quilt laid out in the traditional lay out. I hate sewing curves, though! Yours is beautiful and I will look forward to seeing what layout you choose!
