Sunday's Psalm--Second Sunday of Lent

R. I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.

I believed, even when I said,
"I am greatly afflicted."
Precious in the eyes of the LORD
is the death of his faithful one.
I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.

O LORD, I am your servant;
I am your servant, the son of your handmaid;
you have loosed my bonds.
To you will I offer sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and I will call upon the name of the LORD. I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.
My vows to the LORD I will pay
in the presence of all his people,In the courts of the house of the LORD,
in your midst, O Jerusalem.
I will walk before the Lord, in the land of the living.

Psalm 116; 10, 15, 16-17, 18-19

PhotoHunt--Theme: Space

The PhotoHunt home is TnChick.com.

PhotoHunters this week are thinking outside the box to come up with photos interpreting the theme of Space. I'm just going with something somewhat traditional.

Seattle has been one of many locations central to the aerospace industry. In 1962, the city celebrated the future with the Century 21 Exposition--Seattle World's Fair, which left in place the iconic landmark, the Space Needle.
Near Seattle's Boeing Field sits the Museum of Flight. Among its exhibits here is Space Ship One.

The Museum of Flight was a much more interesting experience than I had expected. We were there during Spring Break last year.

ABC Wednesday--G

The ABCs happen every Wednesday on blogs around the world. Denise started it. Visit her to give her a "thanks".
See the other ABC-Gs linked at the ABC Wednesday site.

G is for gilt.

These are some of the onion shaped domes of the churches at the Russian Orthodox monastery at Sergiev Posad. We visited this village and monastery on a day trip north of Moscow. Sergiev Posad is the spiritual center of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The Holy Trinity Monastery was founded in 1345 by St. Sergius of Radonezh. Our guides told us that besides being an important religious figure and patron saint of Russia, St. Sergius was know for making wooden toys for village children.

This gilded door is inside one of the churches there. If I recall correctly, there are five different ones.

This icon of Mary and Jesus boasts a lavish gilded frame.

When we visited Sergiev Posad, it was the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul on the old Russian calendar and hundreds of Russian Orthodox monks were gathered for special services.

Ambassador!

I have been asked to be a Breast Cancer 3-Day Online Ambassador, and I have taken up the challenge. Between now and when I do my walk in November, I will be posting from time to time about the 3-Day, about breast health, about fund-raising and training for the event. Well, if you've read my blog before (and after) the last two 3-Day Walks I participated in, then you will know that I would have done that anyway.

This year I will be walking in Arizona in November--60 miles in memory of my mother, my sister and my aunt, and in memory or recognition of all those others who have been touched by breast cancer. Before I walk, I must raise $2300. Well, I'm $20 down and only $2280 to go! You can follow my fundraising progress or donate here.

Training? This year I plan to be the fittest of ever. I have already teamed up with someone locally to walk with, and hubby and I are doing water aerobics four days a week. Once the weather improves and it is light later in the evening, we will step this program up. Since she is walking in Seattle two months before my walk, we will ultimately have different training schedule needs, but an early start will do us both good.

Ewe 2

My friend Dave has nine ewes. As of today he also has nine (or ten) lambs.
These guys are part of the extended family--half brothers. But in the next pen were one ewe's quadruplets. I couldn't get a shot of them because they mostly huddled in the corner by a heat lamp.
This young ewe was an orphan from last year. Dave raised her on a bottle. When it was time to sell the lambs, he couldn't bring himself to sell her.

Four of the ewes have not yet lambed. He's sure at least two of them have twins. He's not hoping for another set of quads.
I'm planning to print some of these up and frame them for Dave as a thank ewe for letting me visit his ewes and their little ones.

Twofer Tuesday at Jonna's
Notice that not only are there sets of two pictures as stipulated in Jonna's Twofer guidelines,
but the last three pictures are pictures of two ewes.

Odd Shot--so tell me why...

...if you can learn to speak in a week...
...you need a four week set.

Clicking the logo here or in the sidebar will take you to Odd Shots details. I am becoming more confident in Mr. Linky, though he still disappears for me from time to time. Do leave a link and a comment both if you have participated.

When is a bridge...

...not a bridge?
~
I sought a definition at Dictionary.com , expecting it to suggest that vehicles or people would be conveyed by a bridge across water or some other gap. I had to scroll pretty far down the page to find this one that actually did:
  • noun
    1. a structure that allows people or vehicles to cross an obstacle such as a river or canal or railway etc.
Why did I search out this specific definition? Because being the contrarian that I am, I wanted to contradict it. The bridge above conveys water across the road where the vehicles travel, continuing along to this portion lower down the canyon where you can get a glimpse of the old wooden irrigation pipes.

Bridges between... is brought to us monthly by RuneE. Stop by to pay him a visit and find other bridge posts.

Sunday's Psalm--First Sunday of Lent

R. Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

Incline your ear, O LORD; answer me,
for I am afflicted and poor.

Keep my life, for I am devoted to you;
save your servant who trusts in you.
You are my God.
Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

Have mercy on me, O Lord,
for to you I call all the day.
Gladden the soul of your servant,
for to you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

For you, O LORD, are good and forgiving,
abounding in kindness to all who call upon you.
Hearken, O LORD, to my prayer
and attend to the sound of my pleading.
Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

Psalm 86: 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 (This psalm is taken from the readings for the Saturday after Ash Wednesday. The psalm for the first Sunday of Lent is a repeat of the one from the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time, though a different verse is used for the response.)
