...Yo
In a Quilter's ABC, Y is for Yoyos.Yoyos are made by taking a circle of fabric, running a line of stitching around it near the edge, and gathering them up. They can be sewn together at the edges like this to make a coverlet, or can be used individually as an embellishment or design element.
Yoyos are not something that I often do, and I would definitely not make a quilt completely made of Yoyos such as the one above that I photographed at the Central Washington State Fair last September.

But you didn't think I could find a quilting Y, did you? LOL

I had the privilege of introducing the Mr. Linky for the Letter Y of the third round of ABC Wednesday.
~
I joined the ABC crowd with the beginning of round 2 and I have enjoyed visiting with everyone over that time. Round 3 is coming close to its natural closing. I have been pondering a theme for another round. What about you?

The look like a lot of tiny umbrellas stitched together - cute!
Those must cost a lot as handmade arts are. Wow!
Lots of work on that one.Great Y-post.
You have done it again. I just wouldn't have a clue where to start.
I feel sure you could find a pattern for # or % or *... :)
YAY! (sorry)
That looks like an awful lot of work - and I'm not sure that I would like so many all together like that.
Amazing how many quilt things you could find for the alphabet. this yoyo is perfect. Good post.
I had faith you would find a quilting Y, Katney:) I've seen coverlets made with these; what a lot of work must go in them. Are they also called rosettes, or is that another piece?
I just discovered yoyos at the fabric shop...I got them to decorate aprons...love the quilt
I too am thinking of a theme....so much fun. Your quilting ABC would make a great book!
My mother used to make these and have been wondering for ages what they are properly called... so they are called yoyos eh? From where I came from, yoyos are round toys!lol!
mine is here. hope you can visit too!
happy wednesday!
thanks for your introducing mr.linky Katney! Great job!
My grandmother made a couple of those yo-yo quilts too. I still have them stored away. They are quite pretty, but fragile with age.
You did really well - I joined a lot of other people and used YELLOW. Those yoyos remind me of tiny iced biscuits beloved of children's parties - we called them Iced Gems!
Thank you, on behalf of the ABC Team, for your participation.
I made a yoyo clown in high school sewing -- it was sent to an orphanage when I finished. Lots of work. I agree about a whole quilt of them -- I saw one at our County fair and almost died. Too much work!
Katney
thanks for your response on my post and I will post what simple abundance is this weekend.I have to work the next two days. Thanks for being my friend. I love the yo-yos you stiched.Thats what my granny called them when she made them.

They look like tiny icing flowers piped on from a baker's icing bag... they are very pretty and dainty looking!! Very ornate looking, beautiful.
You asked how recent that last photo was on my Wordless Wednesday... it was taken one week ago from today and plenty of snow, approx. 4-5 feet of snow... those fir trees on the mountains are completely engulfed in the white stuff. The dark mountain in enshrouded in shade so it gives an appearance of no snow, sort of deceiving. It was -22 C when this photo was taken.
Have a wonderful week!

Love that, i bet the quilt is very lovely.
A fine image of this interesting decorative work - a new idea for me.
I think yoyo's are great for embellishment, but like you would never make an entire quilt out of them. Good choice for Y!
