An American Icon

viewed from the west
Half Dome may be one of the most photographed sights in America. What happened to the other half? Geologists say that there never was another half--that this is the whole thing, though other dome shaped peaks in Yosemite are "whole". My mother climbed Half Dome--not something that I could ever have imagined of her. Maybe that hike was the cause of her later fear of heights.

You can see that the skies over Yosemite when we visited last month were clear and blue. You can also see hundreds of skies from around the world at SkyWatch.

Wow, if I knew about this, I've forgotten. That's the good thing about getting forgetful, everything is new and wonderful all over again. ;~)
Anyway, it's gorgeous. And I can't imagine anyone's mother climbing it.
Thanks for a fascinating post.

A view from both sides. It will be a few weeks before I get to my Half Dome shots, I've quite a backlog. I'm trying to get a bunch of posts in the can as we will be going south to spend some time Michael and his parents the end of the month.
We sure did enjoy your company.

Grande impresa.
La zona e la montagna sono da sogno.
Mi piacerebbe molto poterla visitare questa grande icona Americana !
