Photo Hunt Theme: Paper

Okay, you say, how does that fit the theme of paper? This is how. As an avid quilter I have learned, used, designed with, and taught a technique called paper piecing. This wall hanging of hot air balloons that I designed and made was done by paper piecing. The method is very useful for accuracy in small pieces, so it is somewhat popular among those who like to do miniature quilts. The paper laying on the quilt would be part of the paper piecing pattern for the "Flying Geese" border of this quilt.

(I still can't get the tag right. Can someone tell me what to do? I copied and pasted according to directions but nothing shows up.)

What a beautiful quilt!

I shall e-mail to you what I copied from the source code of another blog. (I hope your email is visible somewhere!!)

I never knew people used paper to do quilts.

Love the picture. I read a tutorial on paper piecing on another blog and was on board for the first piece and quickly got confused. I am seeing gorgeous quilts all across blogland and I recently went to a museum exhibit of CA modern quilters.

That is beautiful--a lot of painstaking work! I like making things with paper, too.

That is a beautiful quilt and I enjoyed learning about paper piecing. I have never herd of it. At least I don't remember but maybe it is something like hawaiian quilting -- I started a pillow using that method and I still have it in blue and green UNFINISHED!

Great take on paper theme.

What a beautiful quilt! (Ha, I looked over and meeyauw feels the same way). I have done quilts before and I know you need that piece of paper to lay it all out. Have a good weekend.

This is real artistic and creative. I love the hot air balloon part. To get this done, I guessed you need lots of patience. Well done for the week.

Trinity, the quilt is made of fabric, but paper is used in the making of it. The paper pattern is used like a guide, and you sew by the lines on the paper with the fabric carefully placed with it. Then you tear the paper away.
