Night Lights

I could chose a moonshot, a sunset, a cityscape from London or Seattle or St. Petersburg, the state fair rides at night, a campfire...

These would all work as choices for the theme of night lights.

Instead I will use the opportunity to start our journey to this year's Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We registered our team last night.

My husband and I did the walk last fall in Tacoma. We will walk again this coming October at the same location.

The walk starts once it is dark. Teams gather before to remember loved ones who have lost their battle with blood cancer. (Some people object to using the words fight or battle to describe their experience with the disease. I don't know what other word to say.) The yellow lighted balloons--they will turn on the lights once it is dark--are balloons of remembrance. Some teams gather dozens of co-workers, family members or neighborhood friends of someone who is touched by blood cancer.
The red balloons--you can already see the lights in this one--are carried by friends and family to honor survivors--those whose disease has been cured, and those who are currently patients.

My husband's white balloon marks him as a survivor. Although his Multiple Myeloma still lurks in his blood, it is under control, kept in check by chemo treatments three times a month.

Sponsorship of walkers helps fund research, education, and patient support initiatives of LLS. The Society had been an invaluable resource to us in Ranney's journey with Multiple Myeloma.
Our evening in Tacoma last year was blessed by this rainbow, by the camaraderie of other walkers, and by the support of friends and family. We invite you to join "Just Us Walking" in 2014.

Off my soap box. Here's another night light. Couldn't resist.

Check out my Headbanger friends whose blogs are linked in my sidebar. I am sure they have some amazing night lights for this week's challenge.
