ABC I

I is for Island

These two are located in Crater Lake in Oregon.

Above is Wizard Island. It is the peak of a cinder cone volcano within the lake, and got its name from an early name for the lake, the Wizard's Cauldron. The island peaks about 750 feet above the average level of the lake.

Below is the Phantom Ship. The source of the name of this rock pillar formation becomes obvious in a fog.

Sometimes, just sometimes, I'd like to have my own island.

What a spectacular crater lake. The island is really pretty out there.

Wow! I didn't know Crater Lake had islands. That one really does look like a ship! Shuswap Lake has an island called Copper Island and on our honeymoon we rowed out and climbed to the top. We were 25 and 26 years old, so I know I'd never be able to do that now! lol

What a beautiful scene! I love the Phantom Ship island. It must look spooky on a foggy morning.
