Mrs. Nesbitt started ABC Wednesday and now it has its own Anthology Blog and its own Mr. Linky site.I told you you would see this one again. L is for LeMoyne Star. This design was introduced as far back before the 1850s. Other names it has been called are Lemon Star, and Star of Le Moyne, (and, of course, Idaho Star.)
Another political block--and also another block we have seen before. This pattern, most commonly called Churn Dash was also known as Lincoln's Platform, originating in the mid-1850s.
Neither of the blocks below are full sized Lone Star quilts, but I call them Little Lone Stars.
Traditionally a Lone Star Quilt is a whole quilt design. A traditional Lone Star will have one large star with many more diamonds.
Did something special happen at LeMoyne, I wonder.
ReplyDeleteThat Lone Star quilt must take some making! Well, all quilting must. It is amazing how many different designs there are.
ReplyDeleteYou have some great patterns - I ike to take picture of thepatterns I find in nature and construction. Maybe it is the same "urge"?
ReplyDeleteI love the stars. And Little Lone stars seems a perfect name to me.

What lovely quilts I am still envious of those who make these lovely quilts like you. Thanks for the lesson about quilts. Perfect for L.
ReplyDeleteMOre of those triangular pieces I can't put together. Just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI might get this 2nd quilt finished today. Ok, back to the sewing machine. . .
I wish I had taken up quilting... I think I would have enjoyed it. I know I would have.
