Project Green--a puzzle

One of each pair of photos was taken in Siberia ten years ago. One of each was taken in Alaska last summer.

    Alaska used to belong to Russia, that is why it looks so similar to Siberia

    I was going to say well, Siberia and Alaska aren't too far apart but then the passage of time is . . .
