Camera Critters 2

Details about Camera Critters are here.

My backpack had gotten wet from a spilled water bottle, so we emptied it and hung it on a tree in the campsite at Bryce Canyon National Park so it could dry out. This Golden Mantle Squirrel did not believe that that was all there was to it. There must be treats in there, right? No. These campers know better than to feed the animals. People food is not good for wild critters. (Makes you think about what you eat, doesn't it?) And critters who learn to beg are especially at risk when the tourists go home.
~
Golden Mantle Squirrels are a bit larger than chipmunks. They have stripes on their sides, but not on their faces as the chipmunks do.

  1. What a great opportunity for a wonderful photo. He wasn't scared off by your presence so close by, either. It is a beautiful squirrel species.

  6. That is so cute! He looks very disappointed.

Katney - I read our comment at Daryl's re the photo comp. I voted for you first on one computer, and Daryl first on another. So you should have AT LEAST one vote! Not a zero. I think the comp is not fairly assessed. Just to let you know it was not because I found out you could only vote once, because I used two computers to do it so you each got a vote from me.

  14. That's a great picture. I've had squirrels come to my steps before but I just fed them peanuts. I had to stop as they were getting bolder and I didn't want them in my house lol.

  22. Hey, you're lucky to still have that backpack in tact. Anything left outside around here goes to the making of the squirrel's nests, lol. Cute little creatures, but destructive.
