Details about Camera Critters are here.My backpack had gotten wet from a spilled water bottle, so we emptied it and hung it on a tree in the campsite at Bryce Canyon National Park so it could dry out. This Golden Mantle Squirrel did not believe that that was all there was to it. There must be treats in there, right? No. These campers know better than to feed the animals. People food is not good for wild critters. (Makes you think about what you eat, doesn't it?) And critters who learn to beg are especially at risk when the tourists go home.
~
Golden Mantle Squirrels are a bit larger than chipmunks. They have stripes on their sides, but not on their faces as the chipmunks do.
What a great opportunity for a wonderful photo. He wasn't scared off by your presence so close by, either. It is a beautiful squirrel species.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute, gosh i love squirrels there just so interesting
ReplyDeleteSneaky little buggers. They are constantly trying to get at our bird feeders. My critter is here if you want to check it out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good shot & post.
ReplyDeleteHe looks like the Ground Squirells I know from Saskatchewan, Canada.
See you tomorrow @ Odd Shots.
Best wishes
Blue
What a cute photo! He was definitely wishing you would have forgotten even a little morsel in that backpack ;-) Thanks for playing CC - this is such an adorable shot.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute! He looks very disappointed.
ReplyDeleteKatney - I read our comment at Daryl's re the photo comp. I voted for you first on one computer, and Daryl first on another. So you should have AT LEAST one vote! Not a zero. I think the comp is not fairly assessed. Just to let you know it was not because I found out you could only vote once, because I used two computers to do it so you each got a vote from me.
What a cute picture!
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming by mine earlier.
Great shot!
ReplyDeleteSo many sqiurrels today and none on my island. Such a cutie.
ReplyDeleteGolden Mantle Squirrels are really cool subjects. Their tameness makes them even more fun to shoot. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a face! Good he didn't just chew on your bag.
ReplyDeleteI guess they wanted to go back home with you.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great shot!
ReplyDeleteWow! Beloved, cute and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHehe... aren't they the best!! Love 'em!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great picture. I've had squirrels come to my steps before but I just fed them peanuts. I had to stop as they were getting bolder and I didn't want them in my house lol.
ReplyDeletePoor litttle fella, sooo cute and a great post for Camera Critters.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture...Hubby uses the Bear bag thing when they go to the Boundary Waters...BUT sometimes there is ESSENCE of OREOS that can sure turn a nose of a critter...
ReplyDeleteThe curiosity is one of their weapons to survive
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute photo!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree - i hate seeing people feed the animals people food.
What a great catch! He is really cute.
ReplyDeleteWow a friendly squirrel. I wish one would visit me. As you said we have to be careful what we feed them.
ReplyDeleteHe is too cute.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot. Good for you not feeding the critters when camping.
ReplyDeleteHey, you're lucky to still have that backpack in tact. Anything left outside around here goes to the making of the squirrel's nests, lol. Cute little creatures, but destructive.
ReplyDeleteI imagine you get to see lots of critters while camping. I am not the outdoorsy type at all so miss out on that stuff.
ReplyDeleteSweet critter - great shot!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie! Good thing he was jsut sitting n it and not inside!
ReplyDeleteOh, what a cutie! Great shot!
