ABC-R

R is for Rainier.

Known to local tribes as Tahoma, Mt. Rainier's name was given it by George Vancouver who named it for a friend who never came near the area.

  3. Funny, I was just reading a novel last night and there was a jeopardy question in it and it was about the other name for Mt Rainier. So I just learned this last night. Stunning photograph

  5. I've seen Mount Rainier often, but never knew its original name, or the story of Captain Vancouver re-naming it.
Very interesting, and a spectacular photo!

  6. I'm not surprised you'd chose Rainier for "R". You feel about this park as I do about Yosemite.
