ABC Wednesday--G

ABC Wednesday is sponsored by Mrs. Nesbitt. Click on over for the details.

Bog Gentian grows in damp areas in August. We found it when we hiked to Berkely Park.

Glacier Lilies are found in the early season in the meadows--as soon as the snow starts to melt.

I think this is Gray's Lovage, growing in the dry rocky areas of the tundra.

The Golden Mantle Squirrel looks like the chipmunk, but is bigger and does not have stripes on his face.

Do Mountain Goats travel in herds or flocks? Whichever it is, it is a treat to see them in the high meadows.

These early days of almost spring leave me with mixed feelings. What? no more snowshoeing?/Gee, let's plan a hike! We will probably get a few more snowshoe hikes in before the snow is gone in the mountains. And last summer we shoveled snow from some of the trail bridges on the Fourth of July.

  20. Joan's Digital Eyes, the Bog Gentian is its common name--I don't know the Latin names, and I think I am doing pretty well to remember the common names when I have looked them up. It is not a crocus, though it does nave a similar shape. I think those around here who have crocus growing are starting to see their shoots. The Bog Gentian we found at an elevation of around 6000 feet (some 2000 meters).

Neva, these are all wild flowers we found while hiking the trails of Mt. Rainier. I am afraid if I posted garden flowers you would see about two kinds every seek, though I am hoping to do better this year.
