ABC Wednesday--E

Clicking the logo will take you to Mrs. Nesbitt's Place. She is the hostess of ABC Wednesday.

Here we go looking around the woods for items beginning with the letter E.

Elderberry is popular with the bears. Though I have not seen any bears actually eating elderberries, I have seen what bears who have eaten elderberries have, shall we say, left behind. The berries are very small and very seedy--not so good for human eating, though they are said to make good wine or jelly. This Elderberry picture was taken in August of 2006 when we camped with the grandkids in the Carbon River area of Mt. Rainier. Much of that campground was washed out by the floods in November of that year, as well as the road to reach it by car.

Elegant Jacob's Ladder grows in some areas
along the Sourdough Ridge Trail.

Elephant Head Pedicularis
Someone asked in a comment on an earlier ABC if I had any Elephant Head. Here it is growing along the shore of Shadow Lake.

Sourdough Ridge and Shadow Lake are found in the Sunrise area of Mt. Rainier National Park. Emmons Glacier lies below, seen here from the Rim Trail to Shadow Lake, and is the source of the Whiter River. It is the largest in surface area of the 26 named glaciers on the mountain. (Carbon Glacier is the largest in volume, as it is much deeper.) A lot of debris scraped from its path covers the lower part of it.

See you next Wednesday when I can still pull from nature in the Park--mostly critters for F.
